Hello. I am Andrew. I received a Bachelor's degree as an Intervention Specialist from Bowling Green State University in 2010. I've taken my knowledge of teaching students with different learning needs and applied that with my Montessori training.
I have taught both Math and Science to grades 4-6 in a Montessori setting using differential methods with a focus in establishing students' self-confidence first and building math skills upon that confidence. I strongly believe when learning a new skill, the computation needs to be simple so the process is understood. Once the process is understood, the difficulty in computation can be added in and scaled to push a student's ability.
You can expect me to find the student's skill level and understanding of concepts needed to tackle a math problem before jumping straight into a lesson. Making assumptions can lead to student frustration and delays in learning.
I look forward to helping elementary-age students develop the skills needed to better work with the four operations, fractions, decimals, exponents, scientific notation, positive and negative numbers, Order of Operations, pre-Algebra concepts, ratios, percentages, means, medians, modes, ranges, and more!
I can also assist in areas of proofreading, grammar lessons, vocabulary and other Language Arts topics.
