Hi, I'm Quinn! I'm a senior at the University of Findlay completing a double major in Biochemistry and Biology, graduating in May 2027 and applying to PhD programs in cancer biology. I've done research since high school, including a summer internship at the University of Florida Health Cancer Institute and current projects in cell biology and computational drug design at Findlay. I use general chemistry, biochemistry, and cell and molecular biology every day, so I can show you why these topics matter, not just how to pass the test.
For a full academic year I worked as a General Chemistry teaching assistant at Findlay, helping first- and second-year college students one on one and in small groups during lab and review sessions. I currently mentor underclassmen in the research lab, teaching them techniques like cell culture and walking them through the reasoning behind each step. Through both roles I've worked with students at very different starting points, from those who felt lost on day one to those aiming for top grades.
My approach starts with finding the exact point where a concept stops making sense, then building up from there. I like to use diagrams, step-by-step problem solving, and real examples from the lab to make abstract ideas concrete. I ask students to explain ideas back to me, because that shows what has truly clicked and what needs another look. I'm patient and happy to explain something several different ways. I can help with General Chemistry, Introductory Biology, Cell and Molecular Biology, Biochemistry, lab reports, and exam preparation for high school and college students.

Approved Subjects

Algebra 1

Algebra 1

As a double major in Biochemistry and Biology, I rely on algebra every day, from rearranging equations to solving for unknowns in lab calculations. During a year as a General Chemistry teaching assistant, I helped many students whose real difficulty wasn't the science but the algebra underneath it, so I know where students tend to get stuck. I focus on building a solid foundation in topics like solving linear equations, working with variables, graphing, and setting up word problems. I'm patient and explain each step clearly, so students build both their skills and their confidence.
Algebra 2

Algebra 2

As a double major in Biochemistry and Biology, I use algebra constantly, from solving systems of equations to working with logarithms and exponential functions in lab calculations. As a General Chemistry teaching assistant, I spent a full year helping college students set up and solve the equations behind chemistry problems, which is often where they get stuck in Algebra 2 as well. I focus on helping students translate word problems into equations and understand why each step works, not just memorize procedures. I'm especially helpful for students who want to see how Algebra 2 connects to science and real-world applications.
Biochemistry

Biochemistry

I'm a senior completing a B.S. in Biochemistry and a B.S. in Biology, and I apply biochemistry daily in my research on enzyme structure and function. My current project engineers the active site of the enzyme 5-lipoxygenase to change its substrate preference, and I studied protein acetylation and transcriptional regulation as a research intern at the University of Florida Health Cancer Institute. I can help with amino acids and protein structure, enzyme kinetics, metabolism, molecular biology techniques, and interpreting experimental data. Having served as a General Chemistry TA, I know how to break dense material into clear, logical steps and connect it to how it's used in real research.
Biology

Biology

I'm a senior completing a B.S. in Biology and a B.S. in Biochemistry, with research experience in cell biology, cancer biology, immunology, and field ecology. I currently culture human immune cells to study inflammatory gene expression, and as a research intern at the University of Florida Health Cancer Institute I investigated how an oncogenic fusion protein drives tumor growth. I can help with cell biology, genetics, molecular biology, the immune system, ecology, and lab reports, for high school, AP, and college students. As a former General Chemistry TA and current lab mentor, I connect textbook concepts to real experiments, so students understand why biology works the way it does, not just what to memorize.
Calculus

Calculus

As a double major in Biochemistry and Biology, I've completed Calculus I and II and use calculus concepts in my research on reaction rates, enzyme kinetics, and molecular dynamics simulations. I can help with limits, derivatives, related rates, optimization, integrals, integration techniques, and sequences and series, for AP Calculus AB/BC and college Calculus I and II students. As a General Chemistry TA, I learned to break hard problems into clear steps and explain each one so it makes sense. I focus on helping students understand what derivatives and integrals actually mean, which makes the rules easier to remember and apply.
Chemistry

Chemistry

I spent a full academic year as a General Chemistry teaching assistant at the University of Findlay, where I helped college students work through stoichiometry, chemical equations, gas laws, thermochemistry, and lab calculations. As a Biochemistry major, I've completed a full chemistry sequence and use these concepts daily in research on enzyme structure and molecular interactions. I help high school, AP, and college students set up problems step by step, understand the reasoning behind each formula, and catch the common mistakes that cost points on exams. My goal is for students to see chemistry as a logical set of patterns they can figure out, not a list of rules to memorize.
Elementary Math

Elementary Math

As a double major in Biochemistry and Biology, I use math every day and love helping students see that it's something they can understand, not just memorize. As a General Chemistry teaching assistant and a mentor to newer students in my research lab, I've learned to break ideas into small, manageable steps and to explain them in more than one way until they click. I can help with core skills like addition, subtraction, multiplication, division, fractions, decimals, and word problems, using drawings, everyday examples, and hands-on practice. I'm patient and encouraging, and I want every student to leave feeling more confident than when they started.
Elementary Science

Elementary Science

As a double major in Biology and Biochemistry with several years of research experience, I love sharing how science works in the real world, from studying squirrels and insects in forest canopies to growing human cells in the lab. I help young students explore topics like living things, the human body, plants and animals, matter, energy, and the scientific method, using simple experiments, drawings, and everyday examples. My experience as a General Chemistry teaching assistant and lab mentor taught me to explain ideas in small, clear steps and to encourage students to ask questions. I want students to finish each session curious, confident, and excited to learn more about the world around them.
Microbiology

Microbiology

As a double major in Biology and Biochemistry, I use microbiology techniques regularly in research, including aseptic technique, bacterial transformation, plasmid preparation, and mycoplasma detection and treatment in cell culture. My research has explored how the immune system recognizes microbes, from modeling viral protein interactions with the host protein IRF3 to studying how immune cells respond to bacterial LPS. I can help with bacterial and viral structure, microbial growth and metabolism, genetics of microbes, the immune response, infectious disease, and lab techniques like staining and culturing. Drawing on my experience as a General Chemistry TA and lab mentor, I break complex topics into clear steps and connect them to real lab work.
Organic Chemistry

Organic Chemistry

As a Biochemistry major, I've completed the organic chemistry sequence and apply it daily in computational drug design research, where I analyze how small molecules bind to protein targets through molecular docking and dynamics simulations. I help students with nomenclature, stereochemistry, resonance, acid-base reasoning, reaction mechanisms, synthesis problems, and spectroscopy. Instead of memorizing reactions one by one, I teach students to follow electrons and recognize patterns, so they can work through mechanisms they've never seen before. My year as a General Chemistry TA taught me how to break difficult material into clear steps, and I tie organic chemistry to biochemistry and medicine to show why it matters.
Physics

Physics

I’m a double major in Biochemistry and Biology at the University of Findlay, and I’ve completed Physics I and II along with math through Calculus II. I can help with the full intro sequence: kinematics and projectile motion, forces, energy and momentum, waves and sound, optics, and electricity, including circuits and capacitors. I break problems into clear steps: identify what’s given, pick the right equation, check units, and then sanity-check the answer. Having taken these courses recently, I remember where students tend to get stuck and how to get past it.
Trigonometry

Trigonometry

As a double major in Biochemistry and Biology who has completed Calculus I and II, I've used trigonometry extensively, from trig derivatives and integrals to trig substitution. I can help with right-triangle trig, the unit circle, radians, graphing trig functions, identities, inverse trig functions, solving trig equations, and the laws of sines and cosines. As a General Chemistry teaching assistant, I learned to break hard problems into clear, manageable steps and explain the reasoning behind each one. I focus on helping students understand where the formulas and identities come from, so they can rely on understanding instead of memorizing a long list of rules.
