Get to Know Ms. Amy

Hello! My name is Ms. Amy.

I am excited to get to know you and your child, and help them with their next goals in learning! I graduated from Asbury University in 2008, with a B.A. in Sociology. I have a huge heart for helping others, and this was my focus during college. However, after college, I worked with preschool age children for about 10 years, in an early childhood setting. I loved the children, but found that I wanted to teach even more than I could in a childcare environment. I wanted to have more resources and knowledge to be able to help children succeed in their learning. After realizing my passion for teaching, I went back to school and received my teaching license for preschool - 3rd grade in 2019.

This is when my real adventure in education began! For the past 6 years, I have been the proud teacher of 1st and 2nd grade classes. Bring a part of my students journey, and teaming up with their families to help them grow, has been a huge honor for me.

While I teach all subjects, I am most passionate about teaching reading. During the Summers, I have tutored many of my previous students to help them get ready for the next year. I tell my students that reading is a lot of fun! It is like a puzzle! There are so many letters that make different sounds together. But when you learn those word chunks, they are like puzzle pieces. You can put them together and reading makes sense! As a teacher and a tutor, I am very encouraging. I like to find the trouble areas, and dive in together to learn - one step at a time!
