I'm a retired chemical engineer. My wife and I've raised three boys who are now all productive citizens. For 15 years I was a volunteer coach for math teams at a Middle School in Kennewick, WA. We held evening classes once a week in three separate classrooms. One room was for students who struggled with math concepts, another for those who just wanted some help with their homework, and in the third classroom were those who wanted to train for competitions. I learned to view math through the eyes of the individual student and that helped me to be a more effective tutor. It makes my day if I can rekindle the love of learning STEM subjects in children...they deserve it! This retired engineer welcomes an opportunity to engage my mind in a productive endeavor. If I can ignite the joy of learning in a child today, it will be my biggest reward!

The school in India where I obtained my engineering degree laid special emphasis on math; I received rigorous training in math during my undergraduate studies. The MathCounts competition to which I regularly took teams is run by the National Society for Professional Engineers for middle schoolers. The society provided an updated training handbook each year and I prepared specific practice sheets for math concepts like Algebra, Geometry, and Statistics for more focused learning. Our volunteer coaching classes provided structured training that could even prepare a student for the SAT. No wonder they were always popular.

With experience in having coached hundreds of middle school children in math and my own three students all through high school in STEM subjects, I feel prepared to resume this task in my retirement. I look forward to meeting you in person to discuss how I could help you succeed in school.
