Michigan State University (Journalism)
My name is Burris Smith. I graduated from Michigan State University with a B.A. in Journalism in 1991. Professionally, my work experience is quite diverse. I began my career in the broadcast arena as a news writer and anchor, but gradually moved into the private sector as a functional analyst specializing in writing company policy, procedures and training curricula. While such technical writing might be seen as drab by my contemporaries, I have found nothing but joy in making technical documents a bit more pleasurable for the everyday reader. I spend most of my days editing documents that were written by technical specialists - folks who for whatever reason do not have the necessary skills to turn sometimes brilliant thoughts into the written word. I find pleasure in helping people do just that. My interests in life are vast. There is no topic that does not interest me.
I am the father of four children, the last of whom will be graduating High School in 2016. I have spent what seems a lifetime editing and proofreading essays and themes for not only them, but their friends as well. So many students struggle with writing simply because they see it as a chore. It doesn't have to be that way. Together we can make your work stand out. More importantly, maybe develop a hidden talent that you didn't know existed.
My interests in life are vast, all of which are a joy to put on paper. While I won't write your paper for you, I will bring out the best in your writing. Submit your scholastic essays or themes (including college application/scholarship essays), professional work or just your creative ideas. The feedback I provide will be invaluable. In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
