I have worked in education in a variety of roles for 17 years - as a teacher, as a tutor, and as a coach. I have taught or tutored nearly every high school course in math, social studies, English, as well as ACT and SAT preparation. I also have tutored students with college applications, essays, and writing editing. I primarily work with high school students, but have also worked with middle school and college students.

All of my work with students begins with a conversation to identify strengths and weaknesses, goods and bads, comforts and discomforts. For all students, there is a tipping point where they go from understanding to confusion, and we first need to identify where that point is, build up the foundations at that point, then expand with new knowledge and clarify uncertain or new concepts.
I'm the sort of person who finds everything interesting, and I have a range of interests across many subjects that allow me to connect with students - whether it's sports (I'm a soccer coach and former international semi-pro player), art, music, reading, social studies, math.
My educational credentials include a Bachelor's from Carleton College and Master's from Indiana University, and am a certified teacher. I also have additional certification as an educator from the ACT and from National Geographic.
I am flexible on location - ideally, we will work in a place that is safe for both of us. Typically that is a library. I am also open to remote tutoring online.
