Through my experience with language education, I have been given opportunities to study cultures that differ from my own, to gain a broader perspective of the human condition, and to learn to appreciate the widely varying, but deeply interconnected, arrays of human existence. I believe discovering understanding beyond ones’ native background or experience is integral to creating well-rounded and self-aware individuals. I would like to give my potential students the same chance for self-discovery as language learning has given me. As well, I would like to help them achieve both personal and career goals through the study of English.
My personal approach to language teaching stems from many observed, researched, and practiced resources. I believe that creating as much of a natural language-learning environment as possible is vital for increasing accuracy and fluency in the target language. I believe English language educators have a responsibility to balance form and meaning, and to always consider both in grammar and vocabulary lessons. Students should not only be able to make general statements in English, but also be able to react in specific, unrehearsed, situations.
