I am currently a mathematics PhD candidate, and I also have master's and bachelor's degrees in math. My original goal was to become a high school math teacher, but as I took courses such as calculus, logic, discrete math, linear algebra, analysis, and many others, I fell in love with the math. Now, I want to become a mathematics professor and continue teaching, learning, and researching higher-level mathematics.

I have experience teaching all levels of mathematics: I started tutoring in 2011 as a volunteer at my junior high. I was a year ahead in math, and I would tutor my peers in prealgebra, algebra, and geometry. While I was in high school I worked at Mathnasium; I tutored pre-kindergarten through 12th grade helping students with finger counting, mathematical reasoning, and homework. During my undergraduate degree, I worked as an online high school math tutor for prealgebra, algebra, geometry, and trigonometry. I later became a teaching assistant for calculus and analysis courses. During my master’s degree I taught differential and integral calculus several times in person and online. Throughout my doctoral program, I’ve taught and tutored differential, integral, and business calculus many times.

Having been a tutor, a teaching assistant, and a teacher I understand where students struggle, what resources are available, and how to teach a solid lesson. I also understand that it often takes both a teacher to introduce topics and a tutor to help master them. Because of this, I believe in meeting students at their level and building on it to create a strong mathematical foundation. This strong foundation then allows students to pursue their goals with the tools and confidence they need to succeed.

Please feel free to contact me with any questions; I would love to help you achieve your goals in math. I look forward to meeting you!

Approved Subjects

Calculus

Calculus

Calculus--differential, integral, business, and multivariable--is my passion. Over the years, I've taught calculus at two different universities and tutored students from some of the highest-ranked universities in the United States on Wyzant, so I’m familiar with most textbooks, methods, and problems. I’ll complement your teacher’s instruction and help you excel in your course.
Linear Algebra

Linear Algebra

Linear algebra is a core subject area of mathematics, and I use it frequently in my research. I've also been a teaching assistant for a college-level linear algebra course.

Amazing tutor

I have dyscalculia, so learning math concepts takes me a bit longer. Thankfully, Samantha is patient and kind. After our first lesson, I got a 100 on my homework assignment, which never happens!!!!

Knowledgeable and engaging

My daughter enjoyed her geometry lesson and feels much more ready for the quiz. Samantha provided solid information in an engaging manner. My daughter got the extra time she needed on the material she needed. Thank you!

Highly recommend

Samantha is great. She meets once a week with my daughter to trouble shoot AP BC Calc questions. So appreciative for what she does. My daughter got an A last semester with her scaffolding. Just makes life a little less stressful.
