Ashland University - Education (Other)
I am a graduate of The Ohio State University. My major was Human Development and Family Science - K-3 Education specialization and I also received a minor in Education. While studying for my undergraduate degree I had to take a student teaching course and I had to have several clinic hours. One of the opportunities was being a tutor for two different students and completing running records. I was a Day Care teacher for 3 years for kids 18 months to school age. In my classroom, I cared for and taught pre-schoolers (3-4 year olds) specifically. In 2013, I became a substitute teacher for the Educational service center of central Ohio. Since 2014, I have been employed as a teacher's aide in a K-2 cross-cat class for the same company but in two different schools. I have always wanted to be a teacher. I enjoy helping students. It's fun and rewarding when they have that "aha" moment of understanding. It's a great feeling for them and myself. I am still working towards my teaching licensure through Ashland's Bachelor's Plus Program.
I would not say I am an outstanding Portuguese tutor. I was a foreign exchange student in 2003-2004 and I still try to make conversation whenever the opportunity arises. I can be of assistance as I was fluent in reading, writing and speaking in the past.
I love to read. Reading opens your mind to knew vocabulary, ways of writing and content just to name a few things. Reading is not easy and should be done with expression and attention to detail.
I am a very decent speller. I would always study my words and try to ace my spelling tests when I was in school. I am pretty good at elementary math. The common core is still new to me but so far I have been able to adapt to the new methods.
Do you love learning? Are you motivated? If yes, great! Let's get started!! If not, I can help you find your learning style and the confidence that you need to succeed. School can be hard but together we can make it easier. I look forward to helping you and making learning fun. Can't wait to hear from you! I am a graduate of The Ohio State University. Lisa is wonderful. She took the time to go over notes on the lesson with me afterwards. She is very kind and patient. I would highly recommend her.
Lisa did an excellent job assessing and providing great reading insight to my 8th grader. Wanted to improve reading speed and content comprehension. Was absolutely able to help in both areas. My 8th grader has some great tips moving forward.
In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
I have a degree in K-3 education. I am still working on my teaching license. I have 5 years of experience teaching children ages 18 months to school age. I was a pre-school teacher for 3 years. I was a substitute teacher and I am currently a teacher's aide for a cross-category special needs classroom. I hope to one day teach first or second grade.
Pre-K -3 degree from OSU with intensive math curriculum.
Reading is not just about knowing the words in a book. It's about the story being told and how you can relate to and understand what is being read. Reading can help improve your vocabulary and understanding of words via context clues.
I passed my Praxis 1 (a test for future educators) in reading, writing and math on the first try.
