I have been teaching students of all ages for more than 18 years, and I can help you with English slang, conversation, grammar, or TOEFL, IELTS, EIKEN, TOEIC, SAT, ACT and other proficiency tests. Over the years, most of my students have been from China, Korea, and Japan, but I have also taught students from Mexico, Peru, Saudi Arabia, India, Libya, and several other places. I believe that each person can teach others, so I enjoy learning from my students as well. I am happy to work with all ages -- my students have ranged from age 3 to age 75. One of my most favorite memories as a tutor was when I helped a grandmother learn basic English so she could begin to communicate with her granddaughter. No one is too old or too young to learn a new language!

I am currently a licensed teacher working in Worthington Schools, but I did my student teaching in Hilliard and Dublin, so I am also familiar with their curricula. I also taught group SAT-ACT classes at Ohio Contemporary Chinese school for the 6 years, and worked at OSU in higher education for more than 15 years (Go Buckeyes!), so I can also help students with preparing essays for college applications as well as SAT-ACT exams. One of my students got a 2390 on his SAT (old format), others got above a 1500, and several others have scored 35 on ACT (with perfect scores in English and/or reading)! Although these results are not typical, I had one student take his ACT English score from a 14 to a 32 with a LOT of hard work! My students have been accepted to The Ohio State University, Northwestern University, Case Western Reserve University, Cornell, George Washington University, Fordham College, and several others. I'm very proud of their hard work. I love hearing stories about where my students are going to go for college -- and about the scholarships they are receiving :)

I have been tutoring students in ESL for the past 15 years, and have helped several students prepare for the IELTS test. I am familiar with the bands and scoring of the test. Most of my experience with IELTS has been with helping students with the speaking and writing portions of the test; last year, I helped two students improve their scores over 2 months from a 4.5 to a 6.0 and 6.5, which was enough to get them into two graduate programs in the United States.

My most recent student scored a perfect 80/80 on the multiple choice section of the exam. I enjoy helping students learn and improve their writing skills!

Extremely patient, and very effective tutor

Janelle was amazing with our son. She recognized that he has problems with focus and patiently walked him through his English class during his junior year.
