I recently earned my Ph.D. in Chemistry from The Ohio State University, where my research focused on synthetic organic and medicinal chemistry. I also hold an M.S. in Chemistry from the University of Central Florida. My background gives me a strong foundation across general and organic chemistry, from high school and introductory college courses to advanced organic chemistry.
Throughout graduate school, I gained several years of teaching and mentoring experience working with undergraduate chemistry students in classroom and laboratory settings. During my master's degree, I also helped develop curriculum for an upper-level organic chemistry laboratory course. These experiences taught me that knowing chemistry and teaching chemistry are very different skills. A good explanation has to meet the student where they are rather than simply repeating the material.
My approach to tutoring is centered on understanding rather than memorization. I prefer to help students understand why something works so they can apply the same reasoning to new problems. In organic chemistry, for example, I focus on recognizing patterns, understanding electron movement, and developing problem-solving strategies rather than memorizing hundreds of reactions.
I tutor general and organic chemistry as well as AP and IB Chemistry. Having completed the IB Diploma Programme myself, I am particularly familiar with IB coursework. Whether you're struggling with a topic, preparing for an exam, or trying to master the subject, I want you to feel comfortable asking questions and saying when something doesn't make sense.
