Hi there! I am Michael and I am currently the Social Studies and English teacher for 7th and 8th grade at St. Catharine School in Columbus, Ohio. I thoroughly enjoy teaching my classes as we cover all types of world history as well as focusing on early American history. I also teach English, focusing on a few novels throughout the year, grammar instruction, vocabulary development as well as developing narrative, explanative and persuasive writing techniques. We cover a lot of material throughout the year but we make it all exciting, interesting and stimulating.
I grew up in Ohio, attended DePaul University in Chicago, Illinois where I majored in International Studies and Political Science (double major), receiving Cum Laude distinction. I have traveled around the world and lived in many cities in the US and abroad (Columbus, Chicago, Los Angeles, Washington DC, Barcelona and my hometown Mansfield). I spent time in Washington, DC as an intern working for a NGO and spent years also as an ESL teacher (in Barcelona, Chicago and Los Angeles). I speak Spanish at an advanced level, beginner-intermediate in Portuguese and also dabble in a bit of Latin and Hebrew. I also attended two years of music school at the Los Angeles City College, participating in their Herb Alpert Music Center program where I graduated with a focus on composition and guitar. As you can tell, my interests are wide-ranging, but I especially love to read novels, history, non-fiction, sociology, and many different topics. I am an avid follower of a few sports teams (Arsenal, Cleveland Guardians and Cavaliers) as I was a huge athlete in high school. I don't play as often these days but am a dedicated fan and admirer of the athletically gifted.
I am here to help improve your critical thinking skills when it comes to politics, history and any of the social sciences. Additionally, I am an excellent writer and can help you develop your own voice as well as a sound structure with clear structure and articulate expression.
