Hello! My name is Christopher, and I am a music education student at The Ohio State University, where I primarily study and perform on the clarinet. I was born and raised in Puerto Rico and later moved to Ohio, an experience that shaped both my musical background and my approach to teaching. I have been playing the clarinet for most of my life and have had the opportunity to perform at a high level as a member of the Ohio State Wind Symphony, as well as beginning my work with the Ohio State Symphony Orchestra. In addition to my own studies, I have experience teaching clarinet lessons as a substitute instructor for my private teacher and her students, which gave me valuable insight into working one-on-one with developing musicians.
Alongside private instruction, I have formal teaching experience as a marching band technician and through leading sectionals, where I worked closely with middle school and high school students at the intermediate to advanced levels. My tutoring approach is patient, encouraging, and highly detail-oriented. I place a strong emphasis on building student confidence and helping learners recognize their own musical strengths, while also reinforcing solid fundamentals in tone, technique, rhythm, and musicianship. I strive to create a supportive environment where students feel comfortable making mistakes and asking questions, because I believe confidence is key to long-term musical growth. I primarily offer tutoring in clarinet, but I am also able to support students in saxophone and music theory or music history. As a bilingual tutor (English and Spanish) and future music educator, I am committed to meeting students where they are and helping them feel capable, motivated, and successful in their musical journey.
