Hi! My name is Samantha, and I’m a Biomedical Sciences PhD student at The Ohio State University with a B.S. in Biochemistry and Molecular Biology from Penn State University’s Schreyer Honors College, where I graduated cum laude. My academic and research experience has given me a strong foundation in biology, chemistry, biochemistry, genetics, microbiology, and mathematics. I currently conduct biomedical research, where I use these subjects every day giving me the unique position to teach students how to use classroom concepts in the real-world.

I work with students in Pre-Algebra, Algebra 1, Algebra 2, Geometry, Biology, Chemistry, Biochemistry, Genetics, and Microbiology. Whether a student is struggling with a difficult concept, preparing for an upcoming exam, or simply looking to strengthen their skills, I tailor each session to their individual needs and learning style. My goal is not simply to help students get the right answer, but to help them understand the reasoning behind it so they can approach similar problems independently and confidently.

My teaching style is patient, encouraging, and focused on breaking complex topics into manageable steps. I encourage students to ask questions, work through problems with me, and build the confidence to tackle challenging material on their own. I especially enjoy helping students who may feel that they are “not a math or science person” discover that they are capable of understanding these subjects. I would love the opportunity to help your student strengthen their skills, improve their confidence, and reach their academic goals! I hope to inspire the next generation of STEM students, showing them that math and science can be both accessible and exciting. I look forward to working with you and helping you reach your academic goals!

Approved Subjects

Algebra 1

Algebra 1

My background in Biochemistry and Molecular Biology and my current Biomedical Sciences PhD have given me extensive experience applying mathematical concepts to scientific problems. I help students with equations, inequalities, functions, graphing, systems of equations, and algebraic problem-solving. I focus on helping students understand the reasoning behind each step so they can approach unfamiliar problems independently and confidently.
Algebra 2

Algebra 2

As a Biomedical Sciences PhD student, I regularly use quantitative reasoning and mathematical problem-solving in my research. I can help students strengthen their understanding of functions, equations, systems, polynomials, exponents, logarithms, and other Algebra 2 concepts. I emphasize conceptual understanding and problem-solving strategies so students can recognize how to approach different types of problems rather than relying solely on memorized formulas.
Biochemistry

Biochemistry

I earned my B.S. in Biochemistry and Molecular Biology from Penn State University's Schreyer Honors College and am currently pursuing a PhD in Biomedical Sciences at The Ohio State University. My education and research have given me extensive experience with biochemical processes, protein function, metabolism, molecular signaling, and cellular biology. I enjoy helping students connect individual biochemical pathways and concepts to the bigger picture so that challenging material becomes easier to understand and remember.
Biology

Biology

I have extensive training in biology through my B.S. in Biochemistry and Molecular Biology and my current PhD research in Biomedical Sciences. My academic and research experience includes molecular and cellular biology, genetics, physiology, and other areas of the life sciences. I enjoy helping students connect biological concepts to real-world examples so that they understand the underlying processes rather than simply memorizing facts.
Chemistry

Chemistry

I earned my B.S. in Biochemistry and Molecular Biology from Penn State University's Schreyer Honors College and am currently pursuing a PhD in Biomedical Sciences. My education provided extensive training in general chemistry and its application to biological systems, and I continue to use chemistry concepts in my biomedical research. I help students understand topics such as atomic structure, chemical bonding, reactions, stoichiometry, acids and bases, and other foundational chemistry concepts.
Genetics

Genetics

My academic and research training in Biochemistry and Molecular Biology has provided me with extensive experience in genetics and molecular biology. I can help students understand topics including inheritance, gene expression, DNA replication, transcription, translation, mutations, and genetic regulation. I focus on explaining the mechanisms behind genetic concepts and helping students develop the reasoning skills needed to solve unfamiliar problems.
Geometry

Geometry

My STEM background has given me a strong foundation in mathematical reasoning and problem-solving. I help students understand geometry concepts including angles, triangles, congruence, similarity, coordinate geometry, area, volume, and geometric proofs. I break complex problems into clear steps and help students develop strategies they can apply independently.
Prealgebra

Prealgebra

I have a strong foundation in mathematics developed through my undergraduate education in Biochemistry and Molecular Biology and my ongoing Biomedical Sciences PhD. I help students build confidence with foundational concepts such as order of operations, fractions, decimals, equations, ratios, and problem-solving. My approach focuses on breaking problems into manageable steps and helping students understand why a method works rather than simply memorizing procedures.
