Hi! I'm Ella and I'm a student at Duke University studying math.
A bit about my experience as a tutor and as a student: I've been tutoring for 4 years. I've tutored all levels of high school math and some talented 7/8th grade students as well. Hi! I'm Ella and I'm a student at Duke University studying math.
A bit about my experience as a tutor and as a student: I've been tutoring for 4 years. I've tutored all levels of high school math and some talented 7/8th grade students as well. In the past couple years I've branched out as a volunteer tutor for the SAT, and now that I have some experience with that, I feel comfortable charging for that as well. All in all, I have experience in pre-Algebra, Algebra, Geometry, Trigonometry, Precalculus, Calculus 1-3 (including both AP Calc exams), and both SAT Math and English. Personally, I got a 1590 on the SAT, a 5 on the AP Calculus BC exam, and A's in every Math and English class I've ever taken.
My teaching philosophy: My focus is on helping your student truly understand the concepts they're learning, and then learning how to take their tests. With a robust theoretical foundation, I can explain concepts from several different perspectives, and since this is a private setting, we have the time to take several stabs at it if needed! In addition to a strong theoretical base, I can help your student learn how to take their exams. The SAT and AP exams can have strange wording and very particular requirements that are not intuitive in the least! With time, an experienced instructor (me!), and a LOT of practice learning the ins and outs of how standardized tests operate, your student will understand both the content required to do well on the SAT and the structure of the test itself.
