Hi! My name is Katie and I'm a Marist College graduate currently pursuing my PhD in Applied Mathematics at Ohio State University. I work in the field of differential equations, and am well-versed in calculus, matrix algebra, and analysis. During the four years while I was completing my B.S in Applied Mathematics, I worked as a tutor in an in-person drop-in tutoring center as well as independently with students in a one on one setting. I assisted students in a variety of high school and undergraduate-level courses, including, but not limited to, calculus/precalculus, linear algebra, differential equations, and logic. Along the way, I also worked on cutting-edge research, gave departmental talks, and was awarded recognition for academic excellence from my department. Each of those achievements relies heavily on having a strong mathematical background and being able to verbalize those concepts to others.
I am qualified to handle not only multiple students at once, but also multiple subject areas. Conversely, I understand the tactics required to sit with an individual student and work through material not just to solve a problem but to develop a deeper understanding. As a long-time student myself, I find it easy to relate to those struggling with a new concept, and have tried and true methods to overcoming such struggles. One of my favorite things about mathematics is that there are often multiple ways to achieve the same result, so I try to showcase that in my tutoring sessions. If something isn't clicking for a student, there is always another way to approach the topic that may strike a chord instead. My years of experience have taught me the persistence that is required to achieve those breakthroughs.
