Hi. I’m Larean. During my tenure in academia, I realized that my passion was for teaching; I consider watching a student grow and succeed in their own academic endeavors under my tutelage to be a job well done. I earned my PhD in Molecular Genetics/ Cell Biology at the University of Chicago and completed my postdoctoral fellowship in Molecular Microbial Pathogenesis at the Harvard Medical School/MGH. I am currently Professor Emeritus after teaching Microbiology and related topics for 18 years. My academic experiences have equipped me with the tools to help students succeed in their personal endeavors whether they are in grades K-12, in college, or graduate/professional school. In addition to basic teaching and pedagogy, I have had many opportunities to develop my writing skills through promoting my students or peers or through promoting my own research to win fellowships and R15 grants. My experience in presenting my own research through posters and oral presentations as well as mentoring high school and college students in the art of sharing their research findings through these same platforms, and my experience judging science competitions, make me a valuable resource for students who wish to excel in those areas.
