I'm Madeline, and I am currently a 3rd year medical student. Before that, I graduated summa cum laude with a degree in Biology and a minor in History, and before that, I was inspired to pursue the path I am on by a handful of great teachers who went to great lengths to help their students truly understand core concepts. From a physics professor who spun students around in a chair to demonstrate angular momentum to the chemistry teacher who encouraged us to design our own experiments, they all had one thing in common: if I or my classmates didn't understand what they were teaching, they would find alternative ways to explain it until we did.

I've been tutoring since my junior year in college, so for roughly 4 years now, and I do my best to model my teaching on these instructors. I firmly believe that there is a way to explain almost every concept so that someone can understand it. Some people learn visually, and diagrams are incredibly helpful; for others, flow-charts or step-by-step explanations make the most sense; for others, trial and error is the way to go, and many more. I focus on finding that explanation, and then practicing the concept with my students to make sure that the concept sticks.

Because of my educational background, I specialize in math as well as science disciplines. I am also extremely comfortable helping with anything related to research and writing projects. Please feel free to reach out to me with any questions or to schedule a session!

Approved Subjects

Algebra 1

Algebra 1

Mathematics was always one of my favorite subjects in school. Furthermore, as both a medical student and a researcher, I still use many of these skills on a daily basis. Algebra was one of the first subjects I taught when I began tutoring, and I am extremely comfortable explaining both concepts and complex problems using practice problems, graphing, and step-by-step explainations.
Algebra 2

Algebra 2

Biology

Biology

Biology is the basis of virtually everything that I study on a daily basis, and it is a topic I understand deeply. I took AP Biology in high school and scored a 5 on the exam, and I graduated summa cum laude from my undergraduate institution with a B.S. in Biology. As a result, Biology is one of my most comfortable subjects to tutor, and I am comfortable at all levels of Biology instruction up to and including undergraduate work.
Writing

Writing

Writing has been an important component of both my education and my career. I have extensive experience with college level writing thanks to my minor in History as well as the writing I do on a daily basis as part of the research process. I am adept at all phases of the writing process, including research, drafting, and editing. For these reasons, I feel I am well-positioned to both help my students produce excellent work, and to equip them with the skills needed to continue writing at a high level.
