I am a graduate of Ohio State University. I received my Ph.D. in Educational Studies, specializing in Quantitative Research, Evaluation, and Measurement. I have taught multiple statistics and research methods courses, from Intro to Statistics up through Multivariate Statistics, all using SPSS. The majority of my teaching and tutoring experience has been with graduate students from the social sciences. I recently began one-on-one tutoring online through a different platform, where I have maintained a 5 out of 5 rating.

My teaching philosophy is that anxiety around math and statistics should not get in the way of learning. As a student, I often witnessed situations where the professor would forget that their students are still novices and would assume that the logical connections were as obvious to the students as they were to themselves. Or I would see extremely intelligent classmates freeze up or tune out whenever the instructor wrote equations on the board. As an instructor, I tried to help my students sift through the noise and focus on understanding the core concepts in a low-pressure environment. My instructional approach is to use analogies and multiple examples in my explanations of concepts and to remind students of how new topics build on top of what came before. I've found that doing this helps students understand the logic behind statistics and research methods, and it makes the connections between topics more explicit even if the math involved remains opaque. I also believe that we often learn best when we're allowed to make mistakes and correct them. I emphasize this thought process in my teaching and tutoring, and I will often try to start from the students' current level of understanding, correct any misconceptions, and then build up from there.

Robert is a first class, excellent tutor. He has immense patience, is very knowledgable in statistics, SPSS and explains things so they make complete sense.

Robert taught me how to analyze statistics in SPSS, and to be able to write up reports on findings in APA Style. He has shown me how to transform tables and graphs from SPSS into APA style. He has been amazing to work with and has made statistics so much more enjoyable and easier for me to understand. Thank you.

Mastery with friendly simplicity

I'm studying an accelerated course that's thrown me into the deep-end with stats, and Robert has been an incredible tutor, who clearly knows and loves what he teaches. After only a couple of sessions, the information and is clicking better and quicker than what I was able to do on my own. He has a great knack of breaking down the basics very simply and using different examples, and even when I've shared my basic/wrong attempts of understanding the content, it's always been met with patience and a thoughtful response to guide me back on track. I like that most, because it helps me understand how to get to answers, vs just knowing what an answer is. I wouldn't hesitate to reach out to Robert in future!

Excellent Tutor

I am a masters biostatistic student who was seeking help with categorical data analysis. Robert was able to breakdown and simplify difficult concepts like logistc regression, multicategory logits, and interpretation of the odds ratio. For hw, he was also able to explain and assist with SAS and R programming. If you are looking for someone who is knowledgeable and can clarify difficult concepts, I would 1000% recommend Robert.
