Hi, I’m Shivank! I am an honors student at The Ohio State University pursuing a Bachelor’s Degree in Biological and Chemical Engineering. Throughout my academic career, I was always drawn to challenges, wanting to complete them and enhance my learning abilities. I noticed I had an affinity for STEM classes and always excelled in those through self-motivation. However, I have had teachers and professors in various classes who implemented various learning strategies to make their content more engaging and valuable, and I benefitted heavily from such strategies. As a result, I use the methods I learned and pass them on to my students.

I have been tutoring for a few years now, both in person and virtual, and having experience in both has greatly increased my passion for learning, and I wish to share it with my students. One relevant experience I have is I managed summer camp in a low-income neighborhood, teaching children in Elementary and Middle school how to read, write, and improve their English language and grammar skills, along with boosting their knowledge in STEM-related subjects. We raised their confidence and standardized test scores by providing consistent, tailored help to each child.

I had a math teacher in high school who preached, “DO WHAT MAKES SENSE!” it has stuck with me; instead of being nervous about a particular topic or problem, I should approach it with common sense and do what makes sense. I will work with you to help you conquer those fears and do what makes sense. I thrived on visual learning and in-depth explanations, so I bring that to my tutoring experience. I mostly specialize in Math and Science-related subjects, but I don’t shy away from Writing as I consider it important! For ACT Math specifically, I received a score of 36. Although the test may feel rushed with 60 problems in 60 minutes, the time required to complete problems towards the beginning of the test is significantly less than the time needed for those towards the end of the section. The key is to pace yourself accordingly and maybe donuts on test day.

For ACT Science specifically, I received a score of 35. Although the test may feel complex, you don't necessarily need a strong background in the subject to perform well. By evaluating the answers and matching what makes the most sense with what the question is asking, you will have no trouble in this section! The key is to pace yourself accordingly and maybe donuts on test day.

I'm still playing to this day. I have had a love for it, and I love exploring different genres, like Rock n Roll, Blues, Classical, Pop, and among other things, famous jingles, movie soundtracks, and video game soundtracks. I also like exploring different Languages as well, as I find Spanish music has complex chord progressions and Hindi Music has beautiful melodies. I took lessons for approx. 10 years, and in that time, I was trained to detect notes by pitch. Even though I may not have liked playing the instrument when I first started, I have slowly grown to love it, and you will too! :)

While I do love the ACT more than the SAT, I took both exams once in October of 2019. The keys to achieving high test scores on the SAT are similar to those I recommend when taking the ACT; pace yourself accordingly, do what makes sense, always answer every single question regardless if you know the answer or not, never doubt yourself, and maybe bring in donuts on test day! :)

Wonderful, clear, and motivating tutor

I had my first session with Shivank today, and the experience exceeded my expectations. In fact, I was so impressed that I promptly enrolled in an additional four sessions to prepare for the ACT next week. The realization that I needed to retake the exam as a prerequisite for admission into a new university program abroad induced stress, especially since I took it last over 10 years ago. Building Confidence

My son really struggled last year in math, and regular tutoring twice a week with Shivank has truly helped to build my sons confidence. He is off to a very good start this year with regular sessions.
