About Andrea

Hello!

This fall I will be starting my sixth year as an elementary teacher. I just moved back to Cleveland after living in sunny Orlando, Florida for 3 years and am excited for a new school year to begin in a new place and community! This school year my students and I are going to have a blast. It will be a rigorous and learning filled year, but very fun and engaging at the same time!

A little bit about myself; I am from Cleveland, Ohio. I went to The Ohio State University (GO BUCKS!) where I studied elementary education. A week after I graduated from Ohio State with my undergraduate degree, I continued my education where I pursued my Master's degree and graduated 11 months later. I taught in Ohio for two years and then moved to Orlando where I continued my teaching career.

In my free time (free time is hard to come by), I am busy running and training for half and full marathons. Currently I am training for the New York City Marathon which will take place on November 6th.

I have my Master's degree in Elementary Education. I also hold a k-12 reading endorsement which allows me to teach all pieces and parts of the reading curriculum from grades k-12.

I have attended many math trainings as part of my professional development during my 5 years of teaching.

Working with elementary aged students, I have worked with students that range from not knowing their letters/sounds to the third graders reading at a 6th grade reading level. With that said, I have a profound knowledge of how to differentiate and meet the student where they are and find out what they need to be successful. I enjoy tutoring students because so much can be accomplished working one-on-one in an environment different from the classroom.

You will learn, keep your brain fresh and sharp and gain many skills...but have fun at the same time!

Approved subjects are in bold.

Approved subjects

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.

Elementary (K-6th)

I have my professional license in the state of Florida for grades k-3. I also received my Master's degree in elementary education in the area of reading. I have been a teacher for 4 years teaching all subjects in 2nd and 3rd grade. I used to be a tutor for Huntington Learning Center where I tutored students grades K-5.

Phonics

I have my professional license in the state of Florida for grades k-3. I also received my Master's degree in elementary education in the area of reading. In addition to both of these items that make me qualified to teach phonics, I hold my k-12 reading endorsement. I teach students to read, which requires a knowledge of the components of reading: phonemic awareness, phonics, fluency, vocabulary and comprehension. I have been a teacher for 4 years, teaching all subjects for both 2nd and 3rd grade.

Reading

I hold a Florida Professional Teaching License in the elementary grades of k-3. I have been a teacher for 4 years in which I have taught both 2nd grade and 3rd grade reading. I have my master's degree in elementary education as well as my k-12 reading endorsement, which qualifies me to teach the curriculum of reading for any student grades k-12. I have privately tutored every summer since I've been a teacher, servicing students in the area of reading and all components of the subject; phonemic awareness, phonics, fluency, vocabulary and comprehension.

Very good tutor, we are very happy with her.

My son is 6 years old, just came from Brazil and she is doing a great work with him. He has improved a lot in just one week.
