Hello, I am Gwendolyn. I am interested in helping students of all ages with their schoolwork so that they can succeed. I first began tutoring in junior high as a volunteer. I assisted students with their homework. After obtaining a B.S. in Psychology, I worked as an instructional assistant at a Sp. Ed. school for children with learning and behavioral difficulties called Springer School and Center. I helped students with their classwork, specifically in math. In this job experience, I also had the opportunity to tutor students after school. In the summer of 2025, I obtained an M.S. in School Psychology. I had a practicum where I utilized various strategies to help students with their reading, writing, and math work. As a practicum student, I also implemented a lesson plan to help students with their sight words. I created my own worksheets to help the students with the lesson plan.

While working at Springer and completing graduate school, I gained a great deal of experience with behavioral management. For instance, I worked as a counselor in the Cleveland Clinic’s ADHD Summer Treatment Program for two summers. There, I worked with children with ADHD and behavioral difficulties. I utilized reinforcement to increase appropriate behaviors and punishment for inappropriate behaviors via a token economy. As a tutor, I would welcome working with children with ADHD or other learning/focusing challenges.

As your personalized tutor, I can assist with homework and help students with writing formal papers. Throughout college, I learned how to write scientific and formal papers. I can help all-age students with brainstorming ideas, finding sources, and properly citing and formatting papers. In college, I learned a great deal about psychology, such as child development. Hence, I could help undergraduate students understand psychology concepts so that they can adequately complete their schoolwork and master topics.

I am here to support. I am passionate about helping students progress in their education and learning.

I previously worked as an instructional assistant at a Sp. Ed. school called Springer School and Center. When I was working as an instructional assistant, I tutored students after school and helped them with their homework. Often, their homework was related to language arts. Additionally, I led a typing and writing class. In this class, I had the students do a writing activity where I examined their spelling, grammar, and punctuation. Additionally, I have an M.S. in School Psychology, where I learned to read different strategies and interventions that could be helpful to your son. In graduate school, I had a classroom-based practicum where I assisted students with comprehending and completing their classwork, particularly in language arts. In this practicum, I led a reading lesson to help the students have a better understanding and retention of sight words, which were words that my lead teacher wanted her students to master.
Spelling

Spelling

I have many different strategies for helping children with spelling. For example, if a child is struggling with stating a word, I may have them say the word out loud, trace the word on a paper, use the word in a sentence, and have them practice writing the word correctly. In my classroom-based practicum, I led a lesson on sight words (the students had learn to recognize, say, and write various words correctly for class). I gave them worksheet where they practiced using and writing the word. If the student needs to learn a list of words, I may give them a practice spelling test. On any words that she does not write correctly, I may have her respell the word correctly three to five times.
