I will begin my student teaching in January 2017. I am currently in my Methods course this semester, so I have developed six of my own art lesson plans at Crim Elementary and Findlay High School. This past spring semester, I volunteered at Kenwood Elementary to participate in their PAWS reading program. During this time, I worked one-on-one with third graders twice a week for 14 weeks. In 2012, I taught 8 of my own lesson plans to 12 year olds through BSGU's Saturday Art Program.
During the summer of 2010, I was a camp counselor for three months in Maine. While here, I planned, led, and provided transportation for 5 outdoor adventures with boys aged 8-16. This included 1 canoe trip, 3 hiking trips, and 1 overnight camping trip. In addition, I directed classes on fire building, navigation, and rock climbing throughout the weeks on campus.
I am very encouraging yet firm with my instruction. I understand that students work best if anxiety is low. Furthermore, students need to be comfortable enough to make mistakes, for that is the path to real learning. As a sufferer of Attention Deficit Disorder at a young age, I understand the importance and difficulties of sustaining focus. I have found success in short sessions of Mindfulness Meditation before my reading lessons.
I have dedicated my life to Art for the past 15 years. I have taken many Art History courses from Pre-History to Contemporary movements. My focus at the University has been on Two-Dimensional work. I am competent in all mediums. I have a lot of experience in Color Theory, Painting techniques/materials, Perspective Drawing, Figure Drawing, Contour Drawing, shading techniques, among other skills.
