Hi, I'm Maxwell! I earned a perfect ACT score and received A's in Calculus I-III, Differential Equations, Linear Algebra, and Physics I-II. I am currently pursuing a Bachelor of Science in Electrical Engineering. I regularly help fellow classmates with homework and exam prep.

As a tutor, I ensure that students understand underlying concepts along with being able to solve difficult problems. I routinely check students' understanding by using the Socratic method, where students explain concepts back to me. I also make complex problems more digestible with chunking, where I break the problems into clear, manageable steps. I guide students through these steps without handing them answers.

Before studying engineering, I completed a Bachelor of Music in Violin Performance with a Concentration in Teaching Artistry at New England Conservatory on a full-tuition merit scholarship. Through that program, I gained several years of teaching experience working one-on-one with students ranging from age 11 to 60. I also learned to work under pressure through high-profile performances, including performing at the White House for Michelle Obama. Many of the strategies that enable stressful musical performances, such as chunking and effective, focused practice, also apply to success in math and physics.

I look forward to helping you reach your academic goals!

Approved Subjects

Algebra 1

Algebra 1

I regularly use Algebra when I apply Calculus, Linear Algebra, and Differential Equations to engineering problem sets.
Algebra 2

Algebra 2

I regularly use Algebra when I apply Calculus, Linear Algebra, and Differential Equations to engineering problem sets.
Calculus

Calculus

I regularly apply Calculus to engineering problem sets and physics problems.
Music Theory

Music Theory

I have experience composing and arranging for professional and educational ensembles such as the New England Conservatory Chamber Orchestra and Boston Landmarks Orchestra. I regularly apply music theory from classical music along with jazz theory in my compositions and arrangements. I also apply music theory when learning and interpreting repertoire on the violin.
Physics

Physics

I received A's in Physics I and II (calculus-based). I apply my knowledge of Physics I and II to electrical engineering problem sets as well as real-world devices that I design and implement.
Precalculus

Precalculus

I regularly use Precalculus when I apply Calculus, Linear Algebra, and Differential Equations to engineering problem sets.
Trigonometry

Trigonometry

I regularly use Trigonometry in physics and engineering problems. For example, I use trigonometry to determine the x and y components of tension from a string at an angle with the horizontal or vertical.
Violin

Violin

I completed a Bachelor of Music in Violin Performance with a Concentration in Teaching Artistry and Music Education at New England Conservatory, studying under world-renowned pedagogue Donald Weilerstein on a full-tuition merit scholarship. I played concertmaster for multiple orchestras and competed in the national Sphinx competition. I also gained experience with private teaching at Conservatory Lab Charter School.
