Hi, I'm Michael! I received my Bachelor of Arts in English from the University of Tennessee at Chattanooga with a minor in Communications in 2021. After graduating, I attended the Master of Fine Arts program at Bowling Green State University, graduating in 2023. As a part of my Master's program, I was responsible for teaching introductory writing courses, working with college students at every level. I fell in love with teaching and working with students on furthering their educational goals, and I am proudly entering my 5th year of teaching English and Essay Writing!
I have experience teaching high school students, new college students, and non-traditional students alike. Some of the kinds of classes I've taught are: College Writing, Writing and Research, Expository Writing, Research and Argumentative Writing, Seminar in Academic Writing, and Seminar in Research Writing, as well as Craft of Poetry.
I am super adaptable when it comes to students' past classroom experiences and their individual educational needs. Let's be honest: with face-to-face classroom instruction, it's difficult to get that detailed, panoramic view of a student's journey and to work really closely together on their strengths and weaknesses. I do hold open office hours for individual help, which a handful of students use; however, in my experience, office hours are usually an afterthought (especially with so many other important responsibilities in life). So, trying to fulfill a career goal (and personal goal, really), I want to use my informed knowledge and professional teaching experience to meet students where they are and help them on their journey to being better observers, better thinkers, and better scholars.
