For over 20 years, I have taught modern and biblical Hebrew, Bar/Bat Mitzvah preparation (including chanting from the Torah and Haftarah, preparing a D'var Torah), Jewish history, the Holocaust, Torah and sacred texts and courses about modern Israel to all ages, from 4th grade students through university students and adult learners. I have also taught classes on Jewish prayer and liturgy. I am very passionate about Judaism and I welcome the opportunity to work with students of all ages and backgrounds, from beginner to advanced. I have taught full time as a Hebrew/Judaic Studies teacher for grades 4-8 at a community Jewish day school for the past 14 years, and I have also taught in the rabbinic program at Hebrew Union College, the community Jewish high school evening program (Mercaz), and online Hebrew and liturgy classes for several local synagogues.
As far as music, I have advanced degrees in cello, piano, music theory and composition and specialized knowledge of ethnic and non-western music in addition to the standard classical and jazz repertoire. My educational background includes degrees from the Peabody Institute of the Johns Hopkins University, Hebrew University of Jerusalem, The Rubin Academy of Music (Jerusalem), and the University of Cincinnati. I have performed nationally and internationally, including on classical music theme cruises and in concert halls in Europe, Asia and the Middle East. I perform regularly as both a pianist and cellist. My original compositions have won many awards. I find it rewarding to share my knowledge and experience with students of all levels.
I have specialized certifications in teaching Hebrew in the Ulpan method, in Talam/iTalam for elementary/middle school students and certificates in Israel education and Holocaust education. I look forward to assisting you on your journey towards greater knowledge of Judaism, Hebrew and preparation for becoming a Bar/Bat mitzvah
