My career as an educator stems from my early childhood. I knew in the first grade I wanted to be a teacher. I taught kindergarten at the same school for 30 years, retired and then resumed my career in the same school district as Administrative Assistant at the High School where I am currently employed. Many of my former students are now high school students and/or have graduated and have children of their own in the same district. It has been rewarding to teach, work with and engage in the same community for 42 years. I am also a 22 year survivor of metastatic breast cancer, too young to retire and would like to continue helping students meet their potential.

Reading is essential to mastering all the other subjects. Reading opens the mind to ideas and information. In my career I estimate that I have introduced 1000 students to reading and successfully helped them move on to higher levels.
Presentation and appearance are vitally important when expressing ideas and exhibiting the knowledge of the students. Neatness counts and it says much about the character of the writer.
Phonics is an essential part of learning to read, especially for young readers.
Learning can and should be fun! Likewise it must be challenging but it does not have to be difficult or boring. I will build a relationship with the students and together we will move forward on the journey of learning.
