Hi! I'm Sarah and I am a passionate and experienced English tutor. I love teaching. It's definitely my calling. I have found that making a strong connection with my students is the most important aspect when helping them to learn new things. I hold an English degree from The Ohio State University and a Master of Education degree from Ashland University. Beyond that, I have been teaching English Language Arts in a public school setting for over a decade. My specialized area is in grades 4 - 9, but I have also worked with high school and college aged students. My tutoring approach is similar to my classroom approach - assist the student in self-discovery, allowing for maximum connections and critical thinking.

With a strong command of the English language and a genuine enthusiasm for literature and language arts, I am eager to help students develop their English skills and achieve academic success. As a lifelong lover of language and literature, I have dedicated myself to the study of English and its various aspects. My students typically enjoy my creative teaching with these topics at the forefront. Lesson plans are used to ensure the goal is met and to keep our learning time organized; after all, practice equals progress.

I have a solid foundation in grammar, vocabulary, writing, reading comprehension, and literary analysis. Whether it is assisting with essay writing, improving reading comprehension, or honing language skills, I am adept at providing personalized instruction tailored to meet the unique needs and goals of each student.

What we expected and beyond

We're looking for a teacher to help our 9-year-old son to grow his skills and life-long passion for the language arts. It's early days, but Sarah has provided more than we expected: - She knows and uses evidence-based assessment tools - She takes time to know the kid as a person, speaking in a tone that's both endearing and respectful - She prepares meticulous lesson plans - Lessons are conversations with Q&A going both ways, not lectures - When asking questions, she waits patiently for my sons to think at his own pace - She assigned our son a hundreds-pages long novel at just slightly above his level but backs it up with reading aloud and carefully planned out analyses. He didn't like the book at first and struggled with its rich vocabulary and references, but has been growing into the story and its characters by the day. That's an important early accomplishment in my view.
