Dear future student,
My name is Anita, and I am excited for the chance to support you in your academic goals! A little bit about me: I earned my bachelor’s degree in Exercise Science from the University of Toledo, where I also competed in Women’s Varsity Soccer. Following my time as an athlete, I joined the University of Toledo Student-Athlete Academic Services team as an advising intern and tutor. In this role, I worked with our student-athletes in many subjects including Anatomy, Physiology, and English. I was also an academic coach, which focused more on organization and timeliness than content itself. Several of my athletes went on to have professional careers and shared with me that the structure and accountability we built together had a large impact on their success. One of my most meaningful experiences was helping a student pass Anatomy on their second attempt, which required focus not just on content but also on confidence. Following this internship, I began medical school in 2022. I am now taking a dedicated study year, which strengthens my ability to coach students through effective learning strategies.
My approach to tutoring is centered on understanding how my students best learn. When we begin working together, I will identify your learning style, either through a free online assessment or by talking through what has helped you in the past. Before each session, I will ask you to share preferred topics for our session so I can create a plan and organize materials. During our sessions, I will facilitate guided problem solving, openended questions, and the teachback method to help you build content. At the end of each lesson, I will ask appropriate questions to measure your progress and make sure we both leave with a clear sense of what has improved and what we will tackle next. My goal is to support you in developing long-lasting study skills.
