Hi. I am Susan. I graduated with honors with a Bachelor’s and Master’s degree in Mechanical Engineering. Teaching and mentoring have been my passion since I was young. As a teenager, I taught at church. In high school, I volunteered in local elementary schools as a teaching assistant and taught dance. In college, I was a teaching assistant for thermodynamics, conducting problem sessions for up to 20 students. During my engineering career, I contributed to the development of a college textbook, taught several classes, and mentored many students. I also tutored a middle schooler in math.
I believe the key to successful learning is to make it fun and to provide practical examples. If I understood how the material would be useful, I wanted learn. I emphasize to my students how the information will be useful to them in the future. This gives them a desire to learn. I also encourage questions.
I completed two years of calculus in college in addition to statistics. I completed Algebra, Trigonometry, Geometry, and Precalculus in High School.
As an engineer, I have a broad understanding of science. In college, I completed chemistry, physics, a class in lasers, and a class in earth sciences.
I love reading, and it is one of my hobbies. I teach children to sound out words and learn new words based on the context.
Please contact me if you need a tutor. I encourage any information or materials that you can provide me on what I need to emphasize. I will answer your requests promptly and will work with your schedule.
