I suppose that I was never known as a bad student...not even close. All throughout elementary school I did not receive a grade lower than an "A" and by the third grade I was the only child in my class with an eighth grade reading level. This academic success carried on into high school where I was always in advanced classes, received a perfect score on the writing section on the SAT exam, earned a score of 99 on my New York State Regents exam and went on to earn a full International Baccalaureate degree. This carried on into college where I was on the Dean's or President's list every semester. During my four years at Pratt Institute, where I studied Interior Design, I had many of my design projects archived by the school, had my thesis project selected to be featured at the 2011 Pratt Show and eventually earned my Bachelors of Fine Arts.

I know it looks as though I am bragging, but I am not telling you all of this to toot my own horn. I was in school for 18 years. I have achieved much academic success, and other than being able to use my creative liberty at Pratt, I didn't enjoy much of it. I love and have always been eager to learn; however, most teaching methods do not make learning very fun and wind up discouraging children from wanting to know more. I have had several years of experience tutoring my classmates in AutoCAD during my college years, and when I was in the twelfth grade in high school I was a NY State English Regents and SAT tutor for the students in the tenth and eleventh grades. My approach to tutoring is to find what makes each child tick, to learn what each child is passionate about and apply that passion towards learning. Once a child finds their preferred method for learning or what techniques and skills help them remember and learn more efficiently, the rest will come. Learning and achieving academic success does not need to be something a child sees as a chore but something they yearn to do and strive for. I want to help instill a sense of confidence in each child I tutor and help them re

Approved Subjects

AutoCAD

AutoCAD

I graduated from Pratt Institute, where I earned my BFA in Interior Design. During my four years at Pratt, I used AutoCAD every day for all of my design and building construction classes; I know the program like the back of my hand, maybe even better. Due to my understanding of the program, I had my final thesis project selected to be featured in the 2011 Pratt Show, had many projects selected to be archived by my school and was on the Dean's/President's List every semester. I learned how important it is to decipher the difference between a presentation drawing and a technical drawing, and know when to use them in order to effectively communicate any design. I can teach how to use the tools and commands as well as how to assemble line weights, drawings and technical sheet sets in a clear, legible and professional manner.
English

English

Due to my passion for reading and writing, English has always been one of my best subjects in school; by the third grade I was the only student in my class to reach an eighth grade reading level, and when I was in the eleventh grade I was astonished when I earned a 99% on my English Regents Exam, the highest score in my class. Despite my nerves before my SAT exam, I was able to achieve a perfect score on the English sections. I have learned two really important things about reading and writing: 1) Reading is about more than knowing what words look like and saying them out loud. It is about understanding what is on the page and using context clues and pronunciation techniques in order to be able to read things you may not understand or words you may have never seen before. 2) The best writers are not the ones who write the longest papers, but are the ones who are able to write clearly and eloquently in order to get the point across. Once you know the proper format for writing a paper or an essay, the rest will come easily as long as you truly understand what you are trying to convey and how you wish to convey it. I would be more than happy to share the writing and reading techniques that have brought me much academic success so that you can consistently produce properly written essays that are both clear and engaging, as well as do well on exams that require reading, writing and combining the two.
Public Speaking

Public Speaking

I have been doing beauty pageants ever since I was 12 years old; I have answered many final on stage questions in front of hundreds of people. I understand how much confidence it takes to get up and make a presentation or a speech in front of a crowd and how imperative it is to be constantly engaging. Accentuation, eye-contact, believe-ability and ability to recover, should you stumble are all important characteristics that all successful public speakers possess. During my four years at Pratt Institute where I earned my BFA in Interior Design, had my final thesis project selected to be featured in the 2011 Pratt Show and had many projects selected to be archived by my school, I learned how important it is to be a confident public speaker. After the completion of every project I was required to give a presentation to professionals in the fields of Interior Design and Architecture; it was then that I realized how prepared pageantry has made me for the real world. I also learned how much good posture, confidence in yourself and what you are saying and how you present yourself affect how the critics view you, as well as your project. The ability to speak in public is a character trait that you will have the opportunity to use everyday for the rest of your life, and can only help lead to your continued success. Whether you use my public speaking techniques on your first job interview, or during your first presentation at work after you have gotten the position, you will always be prepared to make a remarkable impression.
Reading

Reading

I have been a passionate reader ever since I was a child; by the third grade I was the only student in my class to reach an eighth grade reading level. In all of my years of being an avid reader I have learned that there is more to reading than knowing what words look like and being able to say them out loud; it is about understanding what is on the page and using context clues and pronunciation techniques in order to be able to read things you may not understand or words you may have never seen before. Knowing these techniques, as well as how to apply them helped me earn a perfect score on the English section of the SAT exam and a 99% on the English Regents exam, the highest in my class. I would love to be able to share my love of reading and the techniques I used to develop and enhance my reading skills in order for someone else to achieve academic and personal success.
Salsa Dancing

Salsa Dancing

Although I have not seriously danced since I graduated high school, I have never lost my love for Salsa. I am half Puerto Rican and was raised with the beats of the Conga and Hector Lavoe. I can't remember when I started dancing, but I know that it has always been a huge part of my life and family structure. When I was in middle school I joined a professional ballroom dance school, with my focus on Salsa. Unfortunately, when I went to college I was unable to dance as seriously as I would have liked to and have only attended a few sessions at Dance Times Square. If you are a beginner and eager to dance training, or are simply curious if Salsa is the right style for you, I will be more than happy to share my technique and passion for the dance.
Soccer

Soccer

Although I have not played on a soccer team since I graduated high school, I have never lost my love for the game. I can't remember when I started playing soccer, but my parents say that they cannot remember me running without a ball between my feet. I have always played on club teams and was very excited when I was in the 9th grade and made my high school's Varsity soccer team as a starter! Unfortunately, my college did not have a soccer team, however I am a volunteer coach for a local youth club team. Soccer is still very much a part of my life and is something I am incredibly passionate about. I would love to be able to share my passion for the sport with an eager individual.
