Hello There!
I'm Mejeena. Nice to meet you. I look forward to being your tutor in your journey.
But first, allow me to introduce myself. I was born and raised in Port-au-Prince, Haiti and speak 3 languages. My first experience with teaching was in 2013 where I served as a caretaker at a Daycare Center working with children as young as 6 months old to 5 years old. Later, I went on to work an Early Learning Center as a group teacher of a Pre-K classroom. I then went to graduate school and graduated Summa Cum Laude with my Masters in General and Special Education.
As a teacher, my approach has always been to create a safe classroom environment where students thrive. Our classroom community was one of consistent hands-on interactions, engaging environment, rich dialogue, modeling, prompting (through the use of verbal and visual cues), direction and redirection. Our classroom was also a place with positive feedback from peers and teachers, group interactions and opportunities for student led learning. As a teacher, I found fun and creative ways to engage students and to keep them interested when a new topic was introduced. I would first, explicitly, teach the new subject, then afterwards I would ensure time for the students to explore the subject on their own. While students explored the topic (through interest areas, art, drawing, music, etc.), I would rotate around the classroom and provide 1-to-1 assistance when needed. I also used scaffolding with students who had difficulties. Additionally, I would modify the lesson plan when required to meet individual needs. These are the approaches and methods you can expect from me as your tutor. As a tutor, I want to benefit my students as much as possible. Therefore, I welcome any feedback from parents and students. I'm easy to reach and I respond very quickly.
