I am a New York State Certified elementary educator. I have 15 years experience working with children ranging from nursery school to sixth grade. I worked for the New York City Department of Education as an elementary school teacher for 11 years. I have taught second grade, third grade, fifth grade, and sixth grades. I am currently a Department of education teacher. I teach fifth grade and follow and implement a Common Core Curriculrm in all subject ares. I prepare my fifth grade students for the Fifth Grade New York State English Language Arts and Mathematics Assessments. I have been training in and use Common Core aligned programs such as Singapore Math and Reading Street.

I have taught in the Department of Education since 2002. I have taught sixth grade English Language Arts and Social Studies. I have taught third grade, all subject areas for four years and I have also taught fifth grade all subjects for six years. I have scored and administered the New York State English Language Arts Assessment. In addition I have attended the Summer Institute for Reading and Writing at Teacher's College at Columbia University, New York City.

I am qualified to tutor students in the area of phonics because I am a permanently New York State certified Nursery-Grade 6 teacher with 18 years of experience. I currently work in an elementary school and am familiar with phonics programs used in public schools such as Fundations, Wilson Language Basics.

Excellent teacher!

Marilyn came by the house the day before and spent about two hours with my son just to get to know him . Marilyn had brought stickers, pencils and a lessons for my son to get started with in a folder. I have to say my son is a little bit on the shy side but I felt very comfortable with Marilyn. It's only been one lesson but I highly recommend Marilyn.
