Physics, Chemistry & Math Tutor: Former Teacher with a PhD

Hi, I’m Michael! I’m a former high school physics, chemistry, and math teacher with nearly a decade of classroom experience. I hold a master’s degree in education and a PhD in medical physics, and I currently work in cancer care as a medical physics resident. I also have experience teaching at the college level and tutoring students both individually and in small groups.

I primarily work with high school and college students in physics, chemistry, math, general science, and academic writing, including college application essays. I particularly enjoy working with high school juniors and seniors as they navigate advanced coursework and prepare for college.

I believe students can master challenging material when it is presented in a way that makes sense to them. Rather than simply showing a student how to complete one problem, I use targeted questions to identify the exact point of confusion, rebuild the underlying concept, and help the student apply it independently.

My sessions are structured, supportive, and tailored to each student. We begin with a clear agenda and combine concept review, guided problem-solving, targeted practice, and support with current coursework. My approach is patient, collaborative, and judgment-free, with the goal of building both understanding and confidence.

I’m based in Mineola and am available for in-person tutoring throughout much of western Nassau County, as well as online tutoring. My regular availability is Monday through Thursday evenings.
