SAT/ACT/GRE/GMAT PREP for ENGLISH/ESSAY Sections

I have more than seven years' experience as a private test prep tutor. My approach synthesizes the most trusted methods on the market and tailors them to the unique needs of each student. An initial diagnostic pinpoints exactly were we should invest the most time for the biggest gains as we work to close gaps in knowledge, increase speed and accuracy, and promote optimal study habits.

WRITING

I have more than five years' experience teaching Academic and Professional Writing to undergraduate and graduate students at the University of Chicago. In addition, I've helped dozens of private students and professionals with writing projects including admissions essays, cover letters, dissertations, and even informal emails. With each client, I employ straightforward techniques that help to break open the "mystery" of effective writing and enhance the impact and clarity of their project.

When I'm not teaching, I'm a pianist, conductor, composer, and proud uncle (x4). I've worked on Broadway, I've toured across the US, Canada, and Japan, and I've had my compositions performed by two Grammy-Award-winning ensembles. I'm also an avid traveler, hiker, reader, and photographer, and feel very lucky that my tutoring work continues to motivate students in the disciplines that have been such a big part of my life.

Please don't hesitate to contact me with any questions, or just to talk further before setting up an appointment. I look forward to hearing from you!

Highly competent, warm and inspiring

Ben was very methodical and warm during our pre-lesson zoom chat. He listen patiently to my son Max' goals for SAT and college prep. Max has totally enjoyed his first lesson with Ben, finding him clear in analysis and advice, well-structured in teaching, yet very easy to get along with. We are more than happy to have found Ben. Highly recommend!

Helped me tackle GRE verbal in a digestible way!!

Prior to working with Ben, I had no experience with the GRE and really had no idea where to start. The verbal section can be very intimidating! Ben did a great job of learning my weakness areas and creating a thoughtful study plan to strengthen those weak spots. I also found our sessions to be productive. I felt like he always made an effort to review practice problems, question types, etc. that I communicated I wanted to dig deeper on. If you are looking for a tutor that is patient, thoughtful, and really goes the extra mile to prepare you for the exam...Ben is your guy!
