Is that chemistry class starting to ruin your life? Are you just getting a bit behind? Well my name is Edward (most people call me Ted) and I'd love to help you out! I have a BA in Computer Art from SUNY Oneonta, a BS in Chemistry, and a Masters in Adolescent Education: Chemistry from SUNY New Paltz. I hold teaching certificates for grades 7-12 chemistry in both New York and New Jersey.
I am currently a high school chemistry teacher in a school district in southern Bergen county, New Jersey. Prior to becoming a high school teacher, I was an adjunct instructor at SUNY New Paltz for the chemistry department and even before that, I spent 10 years as a furniture-maker.
I am easy-going, light-hearted, and I enjoy telling jokes (a great part about being a teacher is that I have a completely captive audience, no one can run from my terrible science jokes!). Science isn't supposed to feel like torture so I try not to make it feel that way.
My time as a furniture-maker has a huge influence into who I am as a teacher and a tutor. I have found that most people find difficulty in chemistry because it can feel so abstract. This is exactly how new furniture-makers feel when they see a large set of plans. When the plans are broken down into small chunks, where only certain aspects can be analyzed, they can be much less intimidating. Chemistry is the same way! While much of chemistry can feel overwhelming when we look at it all together, if we break it down into small chunks and do a bit of drawing (I like to use a lot of drawings and visual examples in my lessons) it can feel much more manageable.
If you're having trouble with your chemistry class, be it high school chemistry, Regents chemistry, AP chemistry, or even that brutal college Orgo class that could be ruining your life, contact me and let me help you out. I do not teach the way many other teachers do; I prefer to work with you toward your success, not teach to you as you sit idle and listen.
