I hold a bachelor's degree in English and Journalism from Hofstra University, and masters degrees from New York University and the CUNY Graduate Center, respectively. I hold a bachelor's degree in English and Journalism from Hofstra University, and masters degrees from New York University and the CUNY Graduate Center, respectively. My principal tutoring experience was done in conjunction with my former Episcopal parish in Valley Stream, Holy Trinity Church. This was done in conjunction with the Valley Stream School District, where myself and my colleagues staffed an active after school program between 2010 and 2021.
It is my firm belief in teaching history and other social studies related topics that I and my students do an initial intake discussion in order to focus precisely on the lessons or topics which need to be addressed in their studies. Once having done that, we establish the materials we will be using in order to successfully navigate the subjects at hand. It is my firm belief that the development of critical thinking skills are essential not only to success in this area, but to one's overall growth as a student and potential professional in your chosen field or occupation.
A critical part of my tutoring methodology is based on asking questions, even if the matter at hand seems trivial or small at first glance. Reviewing all concepts and ideas carefully is the key to developing confidence and intellectual mastery of the skills required for advancement in one's chosen field of endeavor.
The bulk of my experience has been in teaching high school level students, but I also engaged in adjunct teaching work at the college level at the CUNY Graduate Center.
Ultimately, the willingness to engage in the work needed to become more proficient in a subject is the key to good outcomes in the tutor/student relationship. I will gladly and cheerfully mentor anyone with whom I work who truly believes in the validity of that perspective.
