Cooper earned his A.B., with honors, in physics at Cornell, then served at the U.S. Army biological warfare laboratories at Ft. Detrick, MD. He obtained his M.S. degree in physics at Penn State and his Ph.D. in engineering from Harvard.
His professional life centered on environmental issues, and he was the author or co-author of more than 100 technical articles published in peer-reviewed journals. In 1995, he was elected Fellow of the Institute of Environmental Sciences.

I struggled with my first calculus course at Cornell, then went on to succeed in several more advanced math courses, through to differential equations. I understand how it can be hard and how to make it easier.

Throughout my three-decades-long scientific career, I applied much of the course material that I had learned: chemistry, physics, fluid mechanics, electrodynamics, and transport phenomena,; I taught environmental courses including air pollution control and aerosol science, biostatistics, and some public policy seminars, to graduate students at the Harvard (now, Chan) School of Public Health.

I have published over 100 scientific articles. As a writer and as a writing coach, I have authored, co-authored, or edited over 40 published books. (As a student, my SAT and GRE math and verbal aptitude scores were in the 99th percentile.)

I understand the difficulties students can have, and I am eager to help them succeed in overcoming them. Recently, I helped to prepare for the MCAT physics and math sections.

Physics

Physics

My A.B. from Cornell and M.S. from Penn State were both in physics and my Ph.D. was from Harvard's Division of Engineering and Applied Physics. Most of my three-decade career in academe and industry involved the application of physics and statistics to analyzing and solving environmental problems (air pollution, industrial hygiene, and contamination control).
Writing

Writing

I have published over 100 articles in peer-reviewed journals. I have also served as an author, co-author, coach, or editor in completing and publishing over 40 books, both non-fiction and fiction. I consider myself a "completionist" rather than a perfectionist.

Patient and expert tutor

Very patient person who isn't afraid to answer dumb questions. Builds confidence in students by alleviating tensions and reassuring students in their own ability to succeed. Great guy.

A well-informed with deep knowledge

My daughter started taking Statistics a bit early in 10th grade, so I was initially concerned about whether she would be able to keep up with the class. Fortunately, Mr. Douglas guided her through the course with deep knowledge, kindness, and patience throughout the year. Thanks to his support, she was able to finish the statistics well. As my kid begins the new school year with Physics 1, she is looking forward to working with him again. Thank you!

Very knowledgeable

I learn a lot from our sessions. The knowledge he has is immense. The years of experience makes him one of the best people to talk or or ask for help. I even book a session just to review some information and have a chat about it. It always leads to great discussions.

Knowledgable and funny tutor.

I learned more about Newton’s law and each problem was throughly explained which helped a lot! It was a little slow for my pace though. Other than that everything was great!
