I'm Jolie and I’m here to help you meet your academic goals! I'm a public health professional with both a bachelor's degree in biology and psychology (double major) and a master's degree in public health. Throughout my extensive schooling career, I had the privilege to learn from some incredible teachers. From them, I not only learned about the subject matter, but also about the teaching and learning process. I discovered that for me, and many others, visualization is important. Based on this insight, I make sure to include lots of visualizations in my lessons- images, diagrams, and I always write out terms for my students. I have also found that repetition can be quite effective. I know that no one likes to repeat things over and over so I like to come up with fun games to reinforce ideas. Whether it be creating my own board games, flashcards or playing hide-and-seek games, I have done it all.
I have 4 years of teaching/tutoring experience. Before transitioning to working full time in public health, I worked as an assistant teacher for a bilingual elementary school in Spain. I taught English at the school and provided private lessons for children who needed extra help. I also worked with adult pupils and helped them improve their English skills in the workplace.
Working in the U.S., I have taught elementary, middle, and high school age children. I tutored these children in a variety of subjects including Spanish, English, History, Science, Math, test prep and more. During my academic career, I excelled in all these subjects. I took AP exams and scored between a 3 and 5/5 for all. For the corresponding New York regent’s exams, I scored between 90 and 99/100 and on the SAT and ACT reading sections, I scored around the 96th percentile.
