Hi my name is Abby, and I’m a freshman at Duke University. I’m on the pre-law track double majoring in Economics and Public Policy. In high school I took 14 AP courses across a wide range of subjects, including Psychology, Physics C, Comparative Government, U.S. Government, Calculus BC, Literature, U.S. History, Pre-Calculus, Biology, Statistics, Chemistry, World History, Computer Science A, and Language & Composition. This diverse coursework has prepared me to tutor students in a variety of subjects and at different levels.

I have direct experience tutoring Algebra I and II, but I’m also able to support students in AP and regular Biology, any AP English or History class, and Calculus AB. I’m especially passionate about helping students strengthen their AP writing skills in English and History—whether it’s rhetorical analysis, argument, synthesis, or poetry/prose analysis.

As a tutor, my philosophy is patience, communication, and encouragement. I believe learning happens best when students feel comfortable making mistakes and asking questions. My goal is to create an environment where we can work through material together until it “clicks”. There is no such thing as dumb questions or too many questions, I am happy to explain it 100 different ways until it makes sense.

As far as my actual tutoring methods go, they vary based on the student’s learning style. In math, this could mean practicing with problem sets, reviewing notes, or walking through past quizzes. For English and history, it could involve talking through practice prompts, outlining essays, or building analysis skills. For Biology and other sciences, I try to use visuals to reinforce concepts to help students understand deeply rather than just memorize facts.

Above all, I’m committed to meeting students where they are and helping them reach their full potential. I look forward to working together. Please feel free to reach out with any questions-I’d love to help!
