Learning needs to be a fun and gratifying experience. I am a New York State, Permanently Certified Teacher, and have over twelve years experience teaching. I am currently Substitute Teaching in a local School District K-12 in all subject areas. I am a firm believer that not every child learns information the same way, and finding the avenue through which your child can reach his/her full potential is my goal.
Learning styles are as varied as the individual, and not every classroom experience allows for creative problem solving to reach the correct answer. I am an Artist by trade, and have always found unique ways to gather information, retain it, and be able to reiterate the information back on tests and exams. Many children are visual, hands-on learners. Developing a work pattern that allows a child to manipulate objects through physical means may best suit his/her learning style. At times, the use of textbooks, pen and paper may need to be expanded upon in order for a child to grasp a concept.
I have a very patient, calming, but firm approach to working with children. When tutoring with me, your child will receive the same amount of respect as the educator, and that balance allows for a positive atmosphere for educational growth. When a child is struggling in a classroom atmosphere, it becomes difficult for he/she to concentrate on new material. Having the tools to work through difficult topics, will give your child the confidence to move forward in the classroom in the future.

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
