I currently hold four Professional NYS Teaching Certifications for Biology 7-12, Science Generalist 7-12, Students with disabilities-Biology 7-12, and Students with disabilities-Generalist 7-12. I am in my second year teaching at my current position as a science teacher for junior and senior career and technical education students attending BOCES. My previous role was as a special education teacher teaching science, math, health, career and financial management, and nutrition to students enrolled at BOCES in a
facilities and grounds maintenance and foods and retail programs. I was in that position for 5 years. Prior to that, I was employed as a special education teacher providing resource room support and co-teaching English 9-11, Earth Science, and Global Studies for 4 years in a public high school setting. Out of college, I worked part time supporting students with disabilities and providing special education services for students at a private school. I also, spent 2 years teaching GED classes part-time. While part time teaching I did private tutoring to support students with study skills and in chemistry, and homebound tutoring for a public school in many different subject areas and grade levels.
I have experienced many challenges, that have helped me grow as a teacher. For example supporting students who have felt disconnected with school and subject matter due to past struggles, which often led to exhibiting challenging behaviors in the classroom setting. I specialize in building students confidence in many subjects, through scaffolding learning and direct support and remediation. I have experience teaching learners of all backgrounds, disabilities, learning gaps in many different subject areas. What makes a great teacher is one who will go above and beyond to individualized learning to each unique individual by recognizing their strengths and weaknesses.
