I am a senior in mechanical engineering at Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute, with over 100 credits of engineering courses covering physics, calculus, and more. In high school I was passionate about STEM, taking several years of physics, joining a robotics team, and taking AP calculus AB.
I am a dedicated Engineering Ambassador (EA). As an EA I regularly give presentations about all sorts of engineering topics at K-12 schools! These presentations include hands-on engineering activities which often involve applying STEM topics to achieve a certain goal. This means I often have 1 on 1 conversations with students about how to better understand engineering topics and help them apply it. Not only has this given me a stronger grasp of math and science, but has improved my ability to communicate difficult concepts.
I also have 4+ years of teaching experience as a snowboard instructor. I have worked with ages of 5-25 to improve abilities on the mountain. I usually start with a basic conversation and move from there to slowly and steadily build confidence. I have used that teaching foundation to grow into the person I am today. I prioritize understanding a student's ability and comfort level with a subject before diving into it, to help them become more confident with what they're studying.
I have lots of experience teaching middle and high-schoolers about all types of STEM topics. I like to start with a short and casual conversation to get a sense of each student. My sessions are professional, but informal, with lots of space to ask questions or use various methods. After that first conversation, I like to build from each individual's foundation, taking it one step at a time.
*I am only guaranteed to be available during the scheduled time, if you are a no-show without communication, I will charge you for half of the time since the time was held for you. If you are 15+ minutes late for a lesson I will still charge for the full time.
**I'm open to negotiating a meeting time if listed hours do not work
