For the last 5 years, I have been teaching Math and Science in a K-8 private school that will not be reopening in September. I have 2 sons on the autism spectrum. Our school district just wanted to put them in Life Skills classes and not focus on academics. I had them placed in inclusive settings, with much resistance form our district who told us that they couldn’t learn to read or write. I retaught them everything when they got home from school. I did this through high school, worked as a 1:1 for my younger son through eighth grade with additional tutoring after school, and then homeschooled him in high school. Both were able to complete math through Algebra 2 and Geometry and ended up with academic awards. My younger son did not take regents, but my older son got high 80’s and low 90’s on all but one Regents exam.
I have a Masters Degree in Education. I love math and have helped many students conquer their fear and dislike of the subject.
I love doing hands on activities as much as possible and love seeing the excitement in the students’ eyes.
