American History

At F.D. Roosevelt High School in Hyde Park New York I was enrolled in both Regents U.S. History and AP U.S. History. On the Regents exam I received a score of 98/100 and on the AP exam I received a score of 4/5. My undergraduate major was History and my concentration was recent American History. I graduated from both Dutchess Community College and Syracuse University with honors in history. From Dutchess Community College I received the Departmental Award for Outstanding Achievement in the Social Sciences. From Syracuse University I received the Ketcham Prize for Combined Academic Excellence and Contribution to the Department, as well as the Bernice Hogan Prize for being the graduating History major deemed to have written the best paper in a History class.

Biology

Tutored college students and high school students in intro level biology courses.

College Counseling

I have been employed by a community college as an academic adviser for two years. I have assisted students with looking into colleges/universities and programs that would be ideal for them to transfer to. I help them with researching each college/university and creating action plan lists for applying. I have helped over 10 students write admissions essays and each received notice of acceptance to the school they applied to. I have also connected with staff at other colleges to ensure that credits will transfer to the schools that students have decided to apply to.

English

At F.D. Roosevelt High School in Hyde Park, New York I maintained an overall average in English between 95 and 100 throughout all four years. My score on the English Regents exam was 99/100. I received an A/A in English 101 and English 102 at Dutchess Community College.

European History

At F.D. Roosevelt High School in Hyde Park, New York I was enrolled in AP European History and received a 4/5 on the AP exam. Although my undergraduate concentration was not European History, I did receive a B+ in the European History course I was required to take.

Regents

Using methods and material I created on my own, as well as regentsprep.org and myfreshprep.org, I have tutored in total 9 students preparing to take the Global and/or U.S. History Regents exam often for the third or fourth time. Each student that I tutored in Global or U.S. History increased their Regents exam score by at least 10 points, leading them to graduate and/or pass the course. I study past exams for trends and help students learn how to answer the multiple choice questions they may not recall the answer to by learning to identify key words in the question that will help them quickly eliminate all choices that do not relate to the key words in the question. I help students improve the Regents essay by having them talk to me out loud about shared themes between topics and eras in history and then writing down their discussion to help improve their ability to make informed comparisons and arguments in the thematic essay and DBQ essay.

Social Studies

My educational background is History and Anthropology, which is helpful in teaching social studies students to understand where history, culture, and society connect and overlap. I have experience teaching high school history students to distinguish the difference between fact and opinion, how to identify the main ideas in history, analyze maps, compare and contrast people and events, and analyze primary and secondary sources. All of these are skills that a social studies student is introduced to and I would be able to teach social studies students how to do each.

World History

At F.D. Roosevelt High School in Hyde Park, New York I was enrolled in Regents Global History and received a 95/100 on the Global Regents exam.

Writing

At Syracuse University I received the Bernice Hogan Prize for being the graduating History Major deemed to have written the best paper for a History class.
