Hello! My name is Kristin and I am currently a fourth-year medical student at SUNY Upstate. I graduated from Amherst College with a degree in mathematics. I have experience tutoring science, mathematics, and reading.
As a current medical student, I tutor biology, chemistry, and anatomy. In college, I worked as a laboratory teaching assistant for a biology course for undergraduate students. I encouraged students to ask questions, think critically, and work through laboratory experiments independently. Outside of class, I provided one-on-one support to help students better understand course material.
I also tutor math and reading. I have worked as a math tutor for elementary and middle school students. I provided individualized lessons to build both understanding and confidence. I also learned the value of flexibility and the importance of adapting a study plan when necessary. Currently, I volunteer at a local reading clinic for elementary and middle school students. At the reading clinic, I work with students to practice reading fluency, improve vocabulary, and enhance reading comprehension skills.
Before starting medical school, I worked as a teaching assistant at a special education school, where I provided instruction to a wide variety of students with developmental disabilities and medical complexities. I am very comfortable working with students who have ADHD, Autism, and other developmental disabilities.
In addition to tutoring, I also mentor undergraduate students who are applying to medical school. I meet with them to discuss their applications to medical school, proofread their essays, and provide advice about choosing schools.
My goal as a tutor is not only to strengthen core knowledge but to help students build confidence and develop the problem-solving skills that they need to succeed independently. I utilize practice questions and spend most of the sessions working through example problems/passages to improve test-taking strategies in real-time. Please reach out with any questions!
