Hello, and thank you for your interest in my profile! I am new on this platform and appreciate your consideration!

My name is Benjamin (Ben). I am currently a PhD student at Syracuse University studying Earth and Environmental Sciences (Geology). I actively do research, have published some academic articles, and teach classes at the university. I am experienced with teaching introductory- and upper-level courses for collegiate students, although I am experienced with adults, high school, and middle school aged students too. I have experience as a tutor at the university with athletes in our athletic programs.

I also have a background in music as well. I double-majored with a bachelor’s degree in music in addition to my degree in geology. I am one of the few “certified” . . . rock musicians . . . that you will ever meet. I play bassoon primarily and have played it for more than 15 years. If you have any music interests, let me know too!

My students come from a variety of backgrounds, and I am accustomed to tailoring my teaching methods to each student. I recognize that my students have varying backgrounds, understandings, capabilities, and interests regarding a subject. While I like to be accommodating to each student, I also like to foster curiosity, responsibility, and independence. I like to learn what the goals of my students are and work with my students to achieve them. My expectations of my students are that they are respectful (to me and each other – as I will be respectful to you), put in their best effort, and keep an open and curious mind.

The subjects that I am able to assist with are Earth Sciences, Geology, Environmental Sciences, Chemistry, Physics, Mathematics, Writing, and Music. If you are looking for a tutor in these subject areas, feel free to reach out to me. Thank you again for your consideration and reading.
