I have over seven years of experience working with elementary and middle school students as both a tutor and a karate instructor. I began teaching at my local karate dojo at a young age, where I worked closely with children to develop discipline, focus, and confidence—skills that carry over into the academic world. At the same time, I spent four years as a tutor and assistant at Kumon, helping students from kindergarten through 8th grade build foundational skills in math and reading. In both roles, I’ve learned how to adjust my approach to suit different learning styles, attention spans, and personalities, always aiming to make learning a positive experience.

My tutoring style is patient, structured, and encouraging. I focus on breaking down difficult concepts into simple, manageable steps, using repetition and real-life examples to reinforce understanding. I’ve worked with students in both one-on-one and small group settings, and I emphasize the importance of confidence-building, especially when students are struggling. Whether I’m helping a student master fractions, or guiding them through reading comprehension, I tailor each session to their specific needs and pace.

I recently completed my first year at Fairfield University, where I am double majoring in Accounting and Finance. My academic journey, combined with years of teaching and tutoring experience, has given me a strong foundation in both subject knowledge and communication. I’m passionate about helping young learners succeed and genuinely enjoy guiding them toward their goals with consistency, support, and care.

Great Tutor with Great Rapport and Strong Math Instruction Skills

Divita has been a great math tutor for my daughter, who just completed first grade and is heading into second this fall. She has a warm and engaging teaching style, and her interaction with my daughter has been excellent from the start. Divita has a great way of breaking down concepts and making them easy to understand. They’ve reviewed and strengthened foundational skills in addition and subtraction, including borrowing and carrying. My daughter has is also no mastering double- and triple-digit addition, and her subtraction skills have improved significantly. Now they are working on multiplication. We’re very happy with the progress so far and are looking forward to continuing more sessions with Divita.
