Hello, I'm Alan, and I would love to help you learn and gain confidence in your ability to apply physics!
I enjoy working with students in a one-to-one capacity. With over 30 years of experience, I am very familiar with the misconceptions and pitfalls that many students encounter while learning physics. When working with a student, my primary goal is to build their understanding, confidence, and have them become independent thinkers. I can provide in depth explanations to concepts and their relationship to our everyday lives. Students will see worked examples and participate in guided problem solving as this leads towards mastery of the concepts or techniques being developed. I truly love and enjoy what I do and aim to make our time as relevant and fun for the student too.
I am a NYS certified Physics and Mathematics teacher having taught courses in Conceptual Physics, Honors Physics, International Baccalaureate (IB) Physics SL and HL, AP Physics I and 2 and Algebra 1 and 2. I received my Bachelors of Science in Physics and Mathematics from SUNY Cortland and Masters in Education with a concentration in Math and Science from Stony Brook University.
Recently I retired and although I still coach and coordinate several student activities, I have flexibility in scheduling. I offer day, evening, weekend, and summer hours.
