Hi, I'm Daniel! I graduated from Princeton University summa cum laude with a bachelor's degree in physics and a minor in computer science, before completing a PhD at Stony Brook University in particle physics and astrophysics. I worked as a tutor in group and individual settings for math and physics classes at a variety of levels and found great joy in navigating the line between helping students to understand the concepts without directly giving them the answers. In grad school, I worked as a Teaching Assistant for introductory physics classes and continued to thrive in situations where I could guide students to a deeper and clearer understanding of the material they were learning. I was awarded the Teaching Assistant Award in my second year in the role.

After graduating with my PhD, I decided that I most enjoyed and was most gifted at bringing the wonders of physics to life for students, so I became a teacher at a school ranked in the top 30 private schools in New York State. In my 3 years as a high school teacher, I've had the privilege of teaching incredibly high-achieving students (who have gone on to attend schools such as MIT, Dartmouth, Stanford, Carnegie Mellon, and Cornell) and helping them to succeed and be challenged in the classroom while learning new content at a rapid pace.

When students come to me struggling to understand concepts, my approach is to work with them backwards to a foundation that the do understand, and then work forwards, building up concepts with examples, until they are fully confident in the concept. When a student comes to me struggling to complete or understand specific problems, my approach is to ask lots of leading questions, as I have found that most of the time students have the required knowledge to complete assignments, but they often don't understand how to use it.

I can tutor at any level of undergraduate or high school physics, as well as introductory java coding class. I'm excited to work with you!
